Endodontic Associates - (260) 432-2813

Fort Wayne, IN

Pre-Operative

The procedure will be performed using a local anesthetic such as Septocaine or Lidocaine. There are generally no restrictions following the procedure and in most instances the patient can drive and even return to work.

  • Please continue taking all medications for blood pressure, diabetes, thyroid problems and any other conditions as recommended by your physician. The procedure does not require that you stop taking any medications unless specifically advised by your physician.
  • Please eat a normal breakfast or lunch as applicable.
  • If you have been advised by your physician or dentist to use antibiotic premedication prior to a dental procedure because of mitral valve prolapsed (MVP), heart murmur, hip, knee, cardiac or other prosthesis, or rheumatic heart disease, then it will be necessary to premedicate one hour prior to the treatment. Please make sure you are on the appropriate antibiotic on the day of your appointment. If there is any question concerning antibiotic premedication, please call our office prior to your appointment. We will be more than happy to review this with you.
  • All patients under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
  • If you were given a referral form by your dentist, please bring that with you to your appointment.
  • If unable to keep your appointment, please give our office at least 24 hours notice so we may schedule another patient in need of care.
Post-Operative

1. While you are anesthetized, "frozen", and may not have feeling in the area, please avoid eating or drinking anything hot as you may not feel the heat and may burn yourself.

2. You had a temporary restoration placed in your tooth:

  • If root canal therapy has been initiated but not completed, you must schedule an additional appointment(s) at our office.
  • If root canal therapy has been completed, you must return to your regular dentist to have the temporary filling replaced. A crown may be recommended. Please avoid pressure or chewing on the tooth (teeth) that has been treated until you have seen your regular dentist for permanent restoration.
  • Please call your dentist as soon as possible after completion of root canal treatment to make an appointment at a time which is convenient for you and your dentist for permanent restoration.

3. You may experience some discomfort on the tooth that has been treated. This may last anywhere between 7-10 days. Swelling in the affected area may also occur. These are not unusual post-operative events.

4. We will give you a post-operative instruction sheet and discuss all details with you at the time of treatment.

5. Please continue with any medications prescribed, unless instructed otherwise by the doctor. Notify the office of any problems that may arise from medications being taken.

Remember... If you have any questions or concerns regarding your treatment, please do not hesitate to contact our office!
